Acupuncture for Digestive Health
Disorders include Gastritis, Acid reflux, Crohn’s disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Ulcerative colitis. Most digestive disorders are due to disharmony in the spleen and stomach. Dr. Lin during uses acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary recommendations, and movement exercises to restore digestive health and reinforce a long-term healthy lifestyle.

Heal the Gut. Restore Whole-Body Harmony.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the digestive system is the cornerstone of human vitality. The Spleen and Stomach transform food into vital Qi and Blood, feeding your organs, clearing brain fog, and maintaining immune resilience. When gastrointestinal function breaks down, the entire physiological system falters.
At the Center for Acupuncture & Anti-Aging Medicine, we look beyond short-term antacids, laxatives, and restrictive elimination diets. Led by Dr. Chianni Lin, DAOM, our Santa Monica sanctuary integrates a multi-generational Taiwanese lineage with clinical integrative medicine to resolve chronic digestive disorders at their origin.
The Brain-Gut-Microbiome Axis
Modern gastroenterology confirms what classical Eastern medicine has taught for centuries: your gut and nervous system operate as one. Under sustained stress or autonomic dysregulation, blood flow is diverted away from the visceral organs, halting digestive motility, impairing digestive enzyme secretion, and destabilizing the microbiome.
Acupuncture provides direct neurological regulation of digestive function:
- Visceral Neuromodulation: Stimulates vagal nerve pathways to transition the gut into restorative parasympathetic motility.
- Mucosal Microcirculation: Enhances oxygen- and nutrient-dense microcirculation to intestinal and gastric linings to accelerate cellular repair.
- Systemic Anti-Inflammation: Calms hyper-reactive immune responses in the digestive tract, down-regulating inflammatory cytokines and reducing visceral pain sensitivity.
Digestive Conditions We Treat
Dr. Lin treats the full spectrum of acute, chronic, and stress-induced gastrointestinal conditions:
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Balancing transit patterns for IBS-D (diarrhea), IBS-C (constipation), and alternating motility patterns.
- Chronic Bloating & Abdominal Distension: Releasing functional gas retention, microbial fermentation distress, and post-meal fullness.
- Acid Reflux, GERD & Gastritis: Clearing internal Stomach heat, cooling epigastric burning, and supporting natural esophageal sphincter function.
- Food Intolerances & Microbiome Depletion: Healing intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”) and repairing systemic food sensitivities.
- Stress-Induced Gut Dysfunction: Relieving “nervous stomach,” functional nausea, and digestive stagnation aggravated by professional stress and anxiety.
Our Clinical Method: Restoring Spleen & Stomach Harmony
Healing the gut requires more than a single needle; it demands an internal biochemical and somatic reset. Dr. Lin integrates five clinical therapies into each treatment protocol:
| Modality | Clinical Action in Digestive Care |
|---|---|
| Doctor-Led Acupuncture | Stimulates master gastrointestinal points to regulate gastric motility, ease visceral cramping, and activate vagal tone. |
| Custom Chinese Herbal Medicine | Personalized herbal formulas designed to resolve dampness, strengthen digestive fire (Spleen Qi), and reduce intestinal mucosal inflammation. |
| Abdominal & Fascial Acupressure | Gentle manual release of restrictions across the diaphragm, solar plexus, and abdominal fascia to encourage lymph drainage and visceral organ movement. |
| Therapeutic Movement (Qigong & Yoga) | Mind-body somatic breathwork directed by Dr. Lin to physically decompress the digestive organs and relieve autonomic tension. |
| Functional Nutritional Coaching | Constitutional dietary strategies centered on warm, easily assimilated, anti-inflammatory whole foods that rebuild digestive capacity without unnecessary restriction. |
Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Digestive Health Acupuncture
How does acupuncture help chronic digestive disorders like IBS or bloating?
Acupuncture modulates the autonomic nervous system, moving your body out of sympathetic "fight-or-flight" and into the parasympathetic "rest-and-digest" state. This restores healthy peristaltic contractions, enhances digestive enzyme production, improves gut barrier blood flow, and directly reduces visceral pain pathways in the gut.
What does Traditional Chinese Medicine mean by "Spleen and Stomach disharmony"?
In Chinese medicine, the Spleen and Stomach are not just physical organs; they represent the entire functional system of nutrient extraction, fluid metabolism, and energy distribution. When the Spleen Qi is depleted or burdened by "dampness," food cannot be transformed properly—resulting in chronic bloating, loose stools, reflux, brain fog, and systemic fatigue. Dr. Lin’s treatments tonify this vital center so your system absorbs nourishment effectively.
Are Chinese herbs safe if I take acid blockers, motility drugs, or prescription medications?
Yes. As a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM), Dr. Lin has advanced training in pharmacology and herb-drug interactions. Every herbal prescription is custom-compounded to ensure it works safely alongside your conventional gastroenterology medications.
How quickly do patients experience digestive relief?
Acute symptoms like nausea, epigastric pressure, and severe abdominal cramping often ease during or shortly after the initial visit. Chronic conditions such as long-standing IBS, recurrent bloating, or food intolerances typically show lasting stability over a structured series of 6 to 10 treatments, allowing the gut lining to repair and the microbiome to recalibrate.
How much does treatment cost, and do you take insurance?
Care begins with a Comprehensive 90-Minute Evaluation & Initial Treatment ($295), followed by 60-minute sessions at $195. Herbs are an additional cost. While we operate as a private cash-pay practice (in-network solely with Cigna) to maintain unhurried, doctor-led care, we submit claims on your behalf or supply itemized, CPT-coded superbills after each session for direct out-of-network insurance reimbursement.
